What is a Business

Business/Company/Entrepreneur

This three words above I think are being used and attached to anyone who feels like it nowadays. In my few minutes in business I work closely with people from different aspects of life. Some are Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and some I really don’t know how to identify them, yet they call themselves the three titles I am talking about in the article.

You registered your “Business” in 2012, CIPC have issued you with the necessary paperwork to operate your business, it is 2015 and the only thing that you have to prove that you are a business owner is those papers, do you still identify yourself as a business owner? Are you still confident in calling those papers your company?
You constantly and religiously attend Business seminars, does this qualifies you an entrepreneur? I truly thinks this titles are unfairly used an inaccurately so.

Definition of a Business:
An organisation or economic system where goods and services are exchanged for one another or for money. Every business requires some forms of investment and enough customers to whom it’s output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit.
This simply means- A Business is one that involves transactions, customers, suppliers, revenues, sales, goods or services, expenses, etc. A business evolves consistently. Without all this happening you can’t just call you CIPC docs a business.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not against registering your entities, but I just wish the masses would understand what exactly a Business is. Registering a business is the formality and just the beginning, there is whole lot that need to be done after that first step.
Attending business seminars is to assist us in dealing with certain aspects in business or how to start or learn from those who already made it. And that cannot make you an entrepreneur. You need to work hard. This titles demand action. A lot of it.

The following are Features of a Business:

1. Exchange of goods and services
All business activities are directly or indirectly concerned with the exchange of goods or services for money or money’s worth.

2. Deals in numerous transactions
In business, the exchange of goods and services is a regular feature. A businessman regularly deals in a number of transactions and not just
one or two transactions.

3. Profit is the main Objective
The business is carried on with the intention of earning a profit. The profit is a reward for the services of a businessman.

4. Business skills for economic success
Anyone cannot run a business. To be a good businessman, one needs to have good business qualities and skills. A businessman needs experience and skill to run a business.

5. Risks and Uncertainties
Business is subject to risks and uncertainties. Some risks, such as risks of loss due to fire and theft can be insured. There are also uncertainties, such as loss due to change in demand or fall in price cannot be insured and must be borne by the businessman.

6. Buyer and Seller
Every business transaction has minimum two parties that is a buyer and a seller. Business is nothing but a contract or an agreement between buyer and seller.

7. Connected with production
Business activity may be connected with production of goods or services. In this case, it is called as industrial activity. The industry may be primary or secondary.

8. Marketing and Distribution of goods
Business activity may be concerned with marketing or distribution of goods in which case it is called as commercial activity.

9. Deals in goods and services
In business there has to be dealings in goods and service.

10. To Satisfy human wants
The businessman also desires to satisfy human wants through conduct of business. By producing and supplying various commodities, businessmen try to promote consumer’s satisfaction.

11. Social obligations
Modern business is service oriented. Modern businessmen are conscious of their social responsibility. Today’s business is service-
oriented rather than profit-oriented.

Business Owner, Entrepreneur, Company Owner are not automated titles. Something need to happen before you can attach this titles to yourself. Not anyone can be a business owner and not anyone can be identified as a business owner. Is as simple as that.

Talent is Overated -(In Business)

Talent is Overated – (In Business)

How do a Business start? With an idea right? Then planning, then execution. After execution or giving birth to your products, or after you have gathered all the materials or equipments to execute, you need Branding, Marketing, Advertising, etc. All this elements has to go together to convert your idea into Sales. But before you start processing your idea to a Business you have to be very passionate about the idea.

Passion is not bought but natural emotion in you, it is an automated one. You want to tell people about your company services? Your passion will tell all. You want tenders or funds? At the presentation your passion will tell all? At all times when you talk about your business, your passion must be present or otherwise your imposing your idea on people, instead of helping them understand why it’s so good for them.

Passion is very important. You showing passion, the consumers or investors trust you more with their money because they know they are more likely to get exactly or more than what they paid or invested for.

We take the value of passion for granted, and yet passion is what will make us successful.I would like to hear or meet anyone who became or are successful in what they doing without passion. That’s how important passion is.

The attitude you bring towards your business is shown by your passion. When you start or run your business with passion you are able to solve or deal with difficult situations you are/will be faced with. You will fight until you win those battles because of the passion you have, and simply because you are doing what you love. Dedication and Determination are not difficult to bring in you to form a character, they are automatically driven in you because of your passion. Passion drives you.

You cannot run your business based on talent only. Many have talent in certain things or areas and people will wonder why are they not pursuing business based on those talents. But the answer is that they are just not passionate about them. When you own a business, you breath, talk and live your business. Your business wakes you up in the early hours of the morning or go to bed very late in the evening or even at times a day with no sleep. Will you do all this if you were not passionate about what you do?

Maybe money is one of the factors that you want to go in business but will you sustain it? Cash flow is the most stressful and demanding factor in business. Therefore if your casflow is not healthy or positive you will be easily broken if you are not passionate about your business. Remember money comes after Passion! This is the reason you see some businesses do very well in their early days and fall still in their early days.

It all comes to one question. How do you choose a career you are not passionate about?
Do not go into business for money or the popularity of it.
Let your passion drives you and create a success.
